Arogya Mathe (Our Lady of Good Health) Mission

Currently The Belgaum Diocesan Social Service Society (BDSSS) is providing education, healthcare, teachings in basic human values as well as self-help groups for women and men.  

     However there is a great need for a central location in which the inhabitants of surrounding villages can congregate for educational needs. 

    6 acres wholly owned by the diocese in the Mudhol and Jamkhandi Mission Area.  It took over five years to find and secure this property.  

    Father Peter Ashirwad under the authority of Bishop Peter Machado is responsible for the planning, execution and results of  the Mission Campus. World Mission of Mercy is working directly with both Bishop Machado and Fr. Ashirwad. WMOM is strategically placed to oversee both expenditures and  construction oversight.   

   Currently the care of these individuals are attended to by diocesan priests and nuns in small temporary mission outposts.        

   For example the Sisters of Daughters of the Heart of Mary cary out Our Lords work in a rented house.  The Carmelite Sisters of Vedruna  cary out Our Lords work in a rented house. The Sisters of Holy Cross of Menzingen  cary out Our Lords work in a rented house. There are also ministry services being provide in the various 10 villages. Having a central Mission campus will bring many of these scattered spiritual servants together maximizing efficiency and services.   

   The mission will cater to 500 former Devadasi and 535 children from 10 villages of Jamkhandi.  It will also provide services to an additional 110 former Devadasis and 1300 families of an additional 24 villages Totaling 610 Devadasi women and 742 Self Help Group members. The project will also have a hostile built for 150 children of former Devadasi and Dalits so they may pursue their education and stay away from the practice of Devadasi.
